Standing guards, mobile patrol and electronic systems solve different security problems. The right model depends on whether the property needs a continuous human presence, periodic visible checks, event response, recorded evidence or controlled entry.
When standing guards may fit
A dedicated officer can support reception, access enforcement, visible deterrence, patrol, incident documentation and immediate escalation during assigned hours. The proposal should define the post, required qualifications, relief coverage and actions the officer may or may not take.
When mobile patrol may fit
Mobile patrol can provide scheduled or randomized visits, perimeter and door checks, visible vehicle presence and selected alarm response across one or more sites. It does not provide continuous coverage between visits, so frequency, checkpoint proof and response limits should be explicit.
Where electronic security fits
Alarms, access control and cameras can detect, control and document events continuously, but technology still needs maintenance and a defined response. It may complement guards or patrol rather than replace them.

California's Bureau of Security and Investigative Services regulates private patrol operators and security personnel. Check the company and applicable credentials using official state resources, then confirm insurance, training, supervision and assignment-specific capability directly.
Compare the full operating cost
Compare bill rates together with overtime, holidays, supervision, equipment, reporting, vehicle or patrol charges, minimum hours, escalation services and contract terms. For a layered program, include alarm, camera, access-control and monitoring costs in the same decision.
